About the Foundation
The Yusuf Islam Foundation was founded in 2009 following the amalgamation of two very successful charities: the Islamia Schools Trust (founded 1982) and the Waqf al Birr Educational Trust (founded 1992). It is an umbrella organisation that works in the field of education, community development and philanthropy.
Yusuf captivates audience at Peace One Day Concert
Yusuf performed the closing set at the Peace One Day Concert at London's O2 Arena in September. The audience was treated to 'Wild World', 'Maybe There's a World' (with Yusuf including the hit Beatles song, 'All You Need is Love') and the peace anthem, Peace Train. The delighted audience demanded an encore and were treated to two more classics, 'Father and Son' and 'Moonshadow'.
Each year, 21 September marks Peace Day; a day for wide-scale community action, and a day for UN agencies and aid organisations to safely carry out life-saving work. Peace One Day is calling for a Global Truce on Peace Day 2012 and the O2 Arena concert launched a 365-day countdown.
